TODAY SHOW HIGHLIGHTS !

 It was an early rise for the ladies of SWSR who drove across town to meet with Today show weather host Steve Jacobs for the live weather crosses !

 

We arrive at Sydney UTS with the moon still out and the sun not up, lucky the weather was nice, and with all the girls getting to skate around the new (temporary) Roller Rink at UTS we all warmed up pretty soon !!

 The Team at the Today show were wonderful, and Steve was happy to chat and pose for pipctures with us.

We were able to see what happens behind the scences, watch some other fantastic skaters, have an amazing buffet breakfast, and show our roller derby skills to the people of Australia that were watching

 

 Once the Sun came out, we warmed up even more, and had four live crosses during our morning with the crew.

UTS did an amazing job putting down the "Skate Court" provided by Maz Arena, allowing the university students, and residents of Sydney participate in the joy and art of Roller Skating !

 Hire skates are available from the Roller rink, and tickets can be pre purchased if you would like to skate on this rink !

With only a short time at UTS be sure to get there soon if you would like to roll, otherwise you may miss out

 We had a great time messing around, showing off our crazy skills, and chatting to other skaters who showed up in the morning.

The weather host Steve also took time out of his busy filming to get some happy snaps taken with some of the girls

ROLL UP FUNDRAISER HIGHLIGHTS

SWSR would like to send a huge shout out to all of our supporters, family and friends who came along to our SWSR ERRD Fundraiser !

Roll Up Roll Up !

SWSR will be participating in this years ERRD Tournament (Eastern Region Rollr Derby" with skaters from leagues all across NSW, we will be batteling it out in the B division, going against some tough competition.

In order to get our team to Central oast for this once a year event, we are asking you to come down to The Bradbury on August 10th, for a night of raffles, music, great food and tasty drinks !

Celebrate SWSR's first year of participating in the ERRD and come down to The Bradbury, who knows, you may just go home taking away some amazing prizes.

SWSR are supporting the homeless in this years winter sleep-out in August !

Skate Hard.. With a Vengance Highlights

 With SWSR looking to roll into a bout this year, some of the team went to Canberra over the weekend to bout in our first bout for the year, with a mixed team from SWSR and sister league CKO, we teamed up to skate against Canberra's Varsity Rollers who are a great league with some extrondinary girls !

We are hoping on one enormous bout scheduled for the end of this year at our home arena Maximum Skating in Smaeton Grange ! Be sure to check our facebook and this News blog regularly to see what date we will be bouting for our one and only Interleague bout at Max Arena for 2013, who will take home the trophey?

Outdoor Training!

While the weather is warm, SWSR is taking the opportunity to get some outdoor training practice in.

We know that every bouting surface can be different, and have learnt the most benificial way for all skaters to gain more agility, balance and stamina, is to strap on some skates, get outside, and get yourself to your local outdoor netball court, bike track, or walking trail and start doing some laps !.

Every surface is differnt, and SWSR prides ourself on all terrain training ! We know that no everyone has access to a skating facility like our current training venue Max Arena, but there are so many other places to skate which we know you can find !

Not only are we keeping fit, but we are also getting a bit of a tan and fresh air ! What better way to enjoy the Sydney sunshine, than to skate in it !! 

We hope this post has encouraged you to get yourself outdoors in the sun, and start pushing on the pavement as well!

SWSR are heading to Canberra to be a part of a Mixed team of girls to bout agasint, Canberra's Roller Derby League The Varsity Rollers !!

A road trip is on the cards very soon, and we cant wait to get our pink butts down there to skate, block, and play roller derby !! So if you are in Canberra over the weekend of July 13th, be sure to get yourself to Southern Cross Stadium at Tuggeranong and cheer the Dishouner Rollers and Misfit Militia on !!
